Reconstruction of Massive Abdominal Wall Defect

Abstract

|
Every surgeon at one time or another is faced with the problem of replacing the massive abdominal wall defects following trauma, infection with gas gangrene, extensive cancer surgery or hernias. Early and proper repair of such large defects is urgent because evisceration, intraabdominal infection and postoperative abdominal wall hernia follow them almost exclusively. Of recent years, various synthetic materials such as Marlex mesh have been used successfully in repair of large tissue defects. Last year, we experienced a case of successful therapy for a huge traumatic abdominal wall defect using Viscose Fabric Mesh, and we report it with the review of references.
